In 2004, a group of African students at Truman College decided to put on a play; The Gods are Not to Blame, by Ola Rotimi. It was the first time many in the cast and the audience of African immigrants would experience African theatre in Chicago. It lit a spark and other plays followed.
Fehinty African Theatre Ensemble (FATE) believes that performance illuminates our many trajectories and our common humanity. Our mission is to stage creative works from Africa and its Diasporas through a process that actively engages African communities, facilitates the development of emerging artists and fosters cross-cultural dialogue and creative exchanges.
